A smile for us

They do not own much.
Their beds don't have matresses or blankets, the don't have a room for themselves, toys are scarce goods and there is almost no personal affection.
However, they manage it consistently to conjure a sincere smile on their faces.

We had the opportunity to visit two orphanages near Nha Trang. More than 80 children are living in this two facilities. Most of them are less than 7 years old. The orphanages are managed by buddhist nuns. A really big challenge, since every child should have its personal affection.

However, the nuns and their aids, manage the situation very well. Their sincere nature provides every child with a smile and every child had a smile for us. We were not accustomed to the familiarity the children had. They did not know us, but they ran to us, they took our hands and proudly showed us their orphanage. There was a certain kind of contentment in those childs, which was really touching. But the nuns had really a special to offer. We never had such a good vegetarian meal before. Kudos to the manager Suco Dieu-An of the pagoda named Phu Quang. Maybe it's possible to get a cooking lesson here sometimes.

The orphanages have to fend for themselves and depend on donations. Most of the donations, they get from Belguim, Holland and Germany. They come from individuals who live in Vietnam or from tourist who get to know the orphanages by accident. For example Frank: He owns a restaurant in Nha Trang and collects donations. He buys food and every month he delivers it personally to the orphanages. Or Uschi: She collects old hospital beds in Munich and ships them to Nha Trang. Or some Dutch: They pay for the health insurance of the children.

It is remarkable what these people do. We really have to take our hat off to them.
